Let the Journey Begin!

As the summer begins to draw to a close, it's time to begin scrapping your vacations and adventures. Our own OMC designer Lindsey has created her own Road Trip Album to remember her summer memories.  Check it out!

Lindsey created this album using the Imaginisce Scooter's Vacation Paper Kit.

To create the shapes and patterns for this album Lindsey used all sorts of Sizzix Dies.  Scalloped Rectangles, Scalloped Circles, Brackets and Arrows, More Brackets, Ornate Squares, and Scalloped Squares - WOW!

Like the Brads?  They are Basic Grey Green at Heart Brads.

Technique Tip: Paper patterned with words make great cut outs for your projects.

Doesn't this border keep everything together?  Lindsey used the Bazzill Basics In Stitch'z Floss & Needles Kit to create it.

Loving the sparkly border?  Thank go to Ranger Ink Stickles Glitter Glue.  And don't you love all the buttons Lindsey used?  We have a whole variety of buttons to choose from here at OMC!

Happy vacationing!

  1. What a great album! Really cute, love the papers/embellies!

Worst travel experience EVER: 16 years ago, my family took a camping trip near Six Flags in NJ, and it rained the whole entire time there. To top it all off, my father had to go to a local ER in the middle of the night during that week. It may have been a horrible vacation, but it is one none of us forgot! (Bonus to rainy weather: there are no lines for the Batman rollercoaster!) :)

  2. my worst travel experience was when I took a large group of students to Europe and on the day of our departure from Paris, one of my students left her purse with passport, etc in the bus as it left us off at the AIRPORT TO GO HOME! Wanted to kill her but after calling around for a couple of hours we were able to locate the bus driver and he brought it back to the airport just minutes before our scheduled takeoff. Talk about stress!!

  3. Well this isn't my best/worst travel experience but it is an adventure of a life time...in 4 days my family will be traveling the Philippines to celebrate my husband's Grand Mother's 100th Birthday! This is going to be my first trip out of the country and I can hardly wait to see all of my husband's family and celebrate such a fabulous event!

  4. Our worst travel experience was during our wedding/honeymoon in San Diego CA area. My husband thought it would be awesome to have a convertible for our vacation. So we were given a Chrysler Sebring convertible as our rental car. Day 2. The trunk refuses to latch and we can not put the top back up on the car. We take it back to the rental car place and get another Sebring. TWo days later, the new Sebring's trunk refuses to close and again, we can not put the top back up on the car. We head back to the rental car place in San Diego and decide that a convertible is not worth it and get a Chrysler 300 instead! The rest of the vacation was smooth sailing!

  5. That is too cute! Our worst travel story is when we were heading down to Kanab, Ut., (a 6 1/2 hour trip from home) to visit my best friend. The tension pully broke on the truck and we were stuck off of I-15 for over 5 hours, we had 5 or 6 cops pass us and not one offered to help! It was hot and miserable!

  6. I just returned from an 18 day trip to Ohio, Kentucky, and Alabama. My worst travel experience was flying on Delta Airlines. The flights were always late which made getting on our connecting flight a nightmare...running from one plane to the next, literally. And to top it off, the customer service in Detroit and Los Angelos are none existent. They tagged our carry-ons in Detroit wrong, and it was stuck in LA for 3 days, since no one in LA bothered to check the computer to see why it wasn't picked up. Since it was my carry-on that they checked at the gate, it had all my work documents in it and the chargers for my phone and lap top. That's what happens when you try to listen to instructions. No one else did and just stuffed their roller bags in the plane.

  7. Worst travel experience....well a couple years back we were going on a camping trip. We had a pop-up that I spent an entire week packing up and cleaning. We left right on schedule for our trip. Got about 1/2 hour from home when we heard a "Thump". Turned out the wheel fell off the camper! Wasn't even like my husband could fix it because all the thingys that hold the wheel on totally fell off too! I was a mess...lol. We did end up renting a cabin instead and had a great trip, but it just started out HORRIBLE!

  8. Very nice. Love all the details and great photographs so we can see. Great summer colors.
My story.. about a trip.. went to see my Navy brother's Homecoming on the USS Harry S Truman in VA. I was driving with my son from Arkansas. I got there and made sure to drive real slow. Of course an officer pulls me over.. it seems I can't even have a radar detector mounted in the window. He let me off by having me completely dismantle the detector and put it in my trunk. Then he got on the radio and called family and let me know he had family in Arkansas. It was very strange. I waited til I was out of VA to remount it and speed our little tails home. LOL

  9. worst: 3 kids under 5, 2 of them needing potty breaks anytime they even Think of a sippy cup and one who is hysterical at all times that a carseat is involved...all piled into an overstuffed minivan for a 12 hour drive to grandma and grandpa's house. Joy of Joys we survived!

  10. My best vacation moment was this past spring....my husband, me and a couple of friends in Las Vegas! Was sooo much fun! The best part about the vacation though was comming home to our two children...even though we were only gone for a few days, we still missed them like crazy!

  11. This is such a cute little book!!

Per the FB post, it said to share best/worst vacation stories . . .

Well, when I was little, my family took a week long, driving up and down the coast vacation. It was half camping and half hotel rooms. One night, in one of the hotel rooms, mom made taco salad (it was the yummiest!) and we got to have a treat of cherry coke! It was a yummy dinner! My bed that night was the cushions from the pull out couch. I didn't get to use them much, because I was up all night, being sick!! To this day, I cannot have cherry coke!! LOL!!

  13. not sure if I"m in the right space for the contest, but I have a travel story that is a nightmare, well actually a couple. On my honeymoon, my husband booked us a cabin in Pigeon Forge, TN. We headed down there, couldn't find the cabin, and everything is closed in January. I stayed in a hotel next to the Dixie Stampede, and wanted to see that show, but it was closed for the winter. then we headed to Dollywood, and my photo in front of the sign that says closed for the winter reminds me of the Chevy Chase movie. I ended up sick and we headed home, and I had surgery (ovarian cancer) and while the trip was a disaster, turned out to be one that saved my life! We're still together after 15 years, but now I plan the trips!

  15. Best travel experience was going to Jamaica on our honeymoon. With two young kids now, it will be a very long time until we share a vacation with just the two of us again!

  16. It would be too long to tell...but let's just say plane didn't leave terminal on time...stuck on plane over an hour at the door, got taken off, hour in terminal to get new plane. Took off and hit the winds near Reno and hit my head on top of plane...was with my daughter who was four at the time telling me it would be okay. It was like drivining in a car...and that was a little bump mommy and that was driving over a big big bump mommy....an older woman next to me said I should be better for my daughter. Unfortunately I have a fear of flying and was doing well into the first 3 hours of the trip...Then we landed and they had only lost one bag...my son's and he was about 10 and needed everything perfect...He couldn't believe they lost his clothes...and we couldn't console him with new clohes even. The airline had a bad day and yelled look lady...do you think we can find every black bag we lost...I said will no but this is a spiderman bag....Oh and when we got home...flew in at 11 pm and suppose to be up for work at 7...we get to our front sceen door and open it at about 11:30ish pm and a flashlight rolls to our feet with a note that the power had gone out earlier that day and the house watcher didn't know what to do...so had to call electric company who came out about 2 am finally. They argued at first because if it was our fault they would make us pay...but turns out it was their fault and they set up a big machine in the fenced backyard...saying don't let anyone near it....I had two young kids and our backyard was mecca...Oh well...it was still a fun time though through all the pain and hassle! cneir

  17. Lots of 'best' stories...so I'll tell a 'worst' one..that is only funny now...11 years later.

Honeymoon Cruise...one stop was Jamaica...everyone said that was the worst stop cause there was a lot of poverty once you get out of the tourist section. So 'be sure to take a taxi, don't try to walk to the mall'...

We got off the ship and into a 15 passenger van. We proceeded to wait for 35 minutes for this guy to fill the van...Ugh...we were so hot and mad! We were determined to not let it ruin our fun. So after THIRTY FIVE minutes we took off for the mall! Finally! Woo hoo!

We drove around the corner and stopped.

Yep, you could see the mall from where we were parked. It was literally 500 feet from where we started!

We just sat there stunned for a good 10 seconds at the sheer stupidity of it...and now we laugh. ;)

  18. Forgot to tell about my best vacation: I think our best vacation was on our way to KY to visit my parents we stayed overnight at a National Park in N GA, well, it looked like a good halfway point... however we ended up having to go 15 miles UP the mountain to get to the park! LOL It was well worth it though, cause the campsite was beautiful and so was the park.

  19. That looks Great!!! We had the VACATION FROM HELL when our station wagon broke down three times between Los Angeles and Fresno, CA. 220 miles took THREE DAYS. We finally left the car in Fresno, got a rental car and came home to San Bruno (three hours). A week later we went back to Fresno, traded in the station wagon and got a new car! To top it off, my husband had second degree sunburns on the top of his feet with blisters so he could not put on shoes,

  20. Worst- taking my son to the doctor 2 hours away and having my 2 1/2 year old puke all over while driving through construction. Then when I finally was able to stop, I started my period. It was not a good day!

Best- After driving through the night I was able to look in my rear view mirror and see all my kids sleeping with the sunrise behind them. That is a picture I will never forget.

  21. I don't know if it's good or bad but it's memorable. We went to Philly for our anniversary and the trip started with the flight being delayed 1/2 hour or so but we still got there 5 minutes before our original scheduled time (figure that one out). Then after hours and hours of walking and sight seeing we couldn't find a restaurant we wanted so we had our "anniversary dinner" at...are you ready for this....BURGER KING that's right folks BK for anniversary...but it did include dinner theater in the form of an adorable little girl in the booth next to us!!!

  22. I don't have the opportunity to travel too often but I would have to say the best time I had traveling would have to be when my husband and I got married. We didn't do the typical honeymoon trip. We drove to Bend, OR where we had a condo for a week but we decided to cut the trip short, after purchasing beach bikes on a whim, and drive up the 101 coast camping at various different camp sites. We rode our new beach bikes on the beach and drank wine straight out of the bottle. We had a great time just enjoying one another and really enjoying the great outdoors. I think this trip will always be a fond memory to keep and cherish as I grow old with my husband.

  23. My worst travel experience was when I was studying abroad in the Czech Republic in college. I decided to go to Poland for a couple of days...well no one told me when I bought my ticket at the travel agency that Canadians had to have a visitor visa in order to enter Poland. At the border, armed Czech guards came on board to check everyone's passports. Because I didn't have a visa (I couldn't understand what they were saying), I got kicked off of the train in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday (trains only ran each way once a day on Sunday). I called my parents and my dad was trying to tell me what to say in Polish, but I wasn't on the Polish side yet! After 10 hours, a train to Prague came through and I headed back. The hostel I reserved accidentally booked me in a male dorm, so after an awful day, I was awoken at 4am by 10 drunk German men...I just hid under my blanket. Worst. experience. ever.

  24. Super cute mini travel album. We are living in Eroupe for the next three years. There is so much to see and do. Not always easy since we only speak a little German. However, we have been able to see lots of castle ruins in our first 5 months here.

  25. Worst Travel Experience...because I recently went through it.

Went on a 2 week trip to London, Paris and Rome. On our last day, returning flight home, our luggage was handled by the hotel and our tour guide. Upon arriving at the airport, my luggage was missing, while everyone else in the group got theirs. Tour guide confirmed with hotel, it was left sitting in the lobby!! It was an hour drive to the hotel, and I was the first flight leaving Rome, so I was supposed to be the first in our group to check in. I was explained that since I had layovers, it would be far easier to fly home, and arrange for luggage to be sent later. Two weeks later I got my luggage!! After getting my attorney involved, to get the tour company to reimburse me the $500 FedEx bill to get my luggage sent 2 day air. I basically ended up contacting the hotel directly to get my luggage back at my expense. All my best clothes were in there, and of course the two nice bottles of wine from Paris and Rome I was bringing back. No one should have to get their attorney involved to get luggage expense reimbursed. But all was fine in the end.

  26. Hope this is where we are supposed to comment at.
My best vacation experience is this past February's cruise that I took with my husband, mom, dad, brother and sister in law. We had the best time on board and were treated so fantastic. It was a lot of fun just spending time with my family and not worrying about any details for a week. It was also nice to leave the snow and sleet behind for nice sunny weather.

  27. My worst travel experience was riding in an old motorhome. I was having motion sickness, holding onto the dining table for dear life when one of the tires directly under me blew! Scared the beejeebees out of me, but at least we had to stop and I could get out of that wretched machine for awhile!

  28. Camping experience!! Huge thunder/lightening storm in the mountains of B.C. with 2 kids! We could feel the ground shake! I'm going to need one of those journals for our MEGA trip next summer! Across Canada and back again through the U.S.! Can't wait!

  29. My favorite vacation was when my husband and I went to Alaska. We rented a motorhome and quads and just had fun. We had no kids, and just got to hang out together.
I still need to scrap that trip, great ideas for it now.

  30. (FB CONTEST). I would have to say I had 2 worst travels stories. The first one was when I was a kid and my parents finally took us on vacation for the first time. We half to our destination and we hit a horrible storm. Trees were falling right behind us as we drove. Roads were flooding. It was horrible and scary. But my father continued to drive on and managed to get us to our destination.
The second worst travel story was about 9yrs ago. My husband and I decided to go to Kentucky and see his father, who he hadnt seen in many years. At the time our oldest daughter was about 6mos old. The morning we left, our daughter woke with a severee diaper rash that had giant blisters. We had problems finding clean rest stops to stop at and change diapers at. Then after getting lost a couple of times we finally made it. But I didnt know that babys cant handle water from different states. And I had been preparing her bottle with the water from Kentucky. Well due to this, the morning we got ready to head back home, my baby got the worst diarhea ever and it came out of her diaper like a gyser, spraying my father in laws brand new carpet. Talk about embarrassement. Mary Reese

  31. Love the album - everything about it just screams "fun"!

I traveled to Phoenix to meet a friend from San Diego. My plane arrived 2 hours late, so she took a shuttle to the hotel. I picked up the rental car and realized I had no idea what hotel to go to - she had made the hotel reservations. I wound up driving around Phoenix all night, and, ultimately, slept in the rental car in a 7-1l parking lot! All of this was before cell phones, so I had no way of contacting her. We finally made a connection through our children and I met up with her the next morning. Had a great week-end after that!

  32. I enjoyed seeing your board book! I have a hard time making mine seem seamless! Thanks for the tips!
Truly I try when I go somewhere to have a great time! We had a GREAT vacation just a couple of weeks ago. My husband and I have been married almost thirteen years and we haven't been on a family vacation since we've been married, except to visit family.
We went to Kansas City and had a BALL! On the way, we stopped at the Truman Presidential Library. The next morning we went to the Kansas City Zoo, which the kids LOVED! (ME TOO :) Then we went to Hutchinson, KS to see the Cosmosphere. Eric's dad actually worked on MANY of the projects in the 60's that were on display there! His folks had planned to come along, but dad was having heart issues, so needed to stay home. That was probably the worst thing about the trip. How cool would that have been?? To stand there and say, "Dad, how did you make this?" Finally we stopped at the Eisenhower Presidential Library in Abilene, KS. It gave me a new respect for our former leaders and really made them real to my children.
We enjoyed each other's company and the kids enjoyed the pools too!

Worst vacation ever....Sleepless in Seattle....we laugh now and it makes a good story...we were touring the north west, planned well and made all reservations well ahead....except for the one day we were to stay in the Seattle area..we didn't know about the world famous boating weekend, we were there at the same time, no rooms, except for those $300 a night or more. We drove around most of the night looking and finally slept for a few hours in the car at a roadside stop. Early the next morning, we headed further north and found a hotel that let us check in early...Ahhh sleep at last....

  35. While living abroad, my best friend and I decided to take a 9-day trip across Europe including stops in Amsterdam, Prague and Budapest. We flew to most destinations, but felt it wouldn't be a real "Euro Tour" with out a train ride. We booked a train ticket from Prauge to Budapest for 12 noon. We had spent the night before roaming the streets of ... Prague partaking in some drinks- not thinking we would have any trouble getting up the next morning. I rose fairly early, mailed some postcards and by the time I got back to the Hostel, our room was empty, the beds had been stripped and the staff were screaming and yelling at my friend who simply wouldn't get out of her bed. I quickly packed her things in her bag, picked her up, moved her into the hallway and got her to drink some water. When she finally came too, we only had an hour to get to the train station. We went outside hopped in a cab and made it with 15 minutes to spare to the platform. My friend was very ill and very hungry, so i looked around and all I could see was a Mcdonald's. I was floored. I ran with everything I had, asked for 3 orders of fries and a burger, threw an undetermined amount of money at them and then made it back the platform. We jumped onto the train just in time for departure. We still look back and laugh about the hectic nature of that morning and I'll never forget that scene of the irate staff members and my friend peacefully sleeping in the bed. It was hilarious!

  36. One of my best vacations was the summer after my divorce--I took my 3 teenage boys to Idaho to visit family and spend a week at Yellowstone National Park camping with only tent and sleeping bags. We drove through an AWESOME lightening storm, learned how to cook full meals with only a fire pit and foil, found hidden waterfalls and swimming holes--All this in a little Honda Accord--this was one of the best 2 weeks we had

  37. My best and worst experiences were rolled into one last year on our family trip to Hawaii. We were late getting to the airport, but our plane was delayed for five hours. After we were boarded and had left the gate we had to go back to the gate due to missing Haz-Mat paperwork. Due to all the delays the airline gave my family of four vouchers totaling $1000.00 that we are using to fly to Epcot Center in Florida this year!

  40. I hope I am posting in the right spot. My best friend had a destination wedding in Puerto Rico. It was a wonderful beach wedding and me and my husband's room had a nice ocean view. I do not handle bug bites very well and little did I know that they had a critter there that they affectionately call a "No See Um" they are biting gnats, you can't see them but you can sure feel them! I was covered with them and boy was I miserable! This was the worst vacation trip occurrence for me to date!

  41. My best travel experience EVAH was in 2008. I piled my 3 kids in the car and we took off for a 17 day road trip through New England and Canada. I even wrote about most of it here: http://joyslife.com/category/travel/
It was wonderful having an adventure with them. We had the BEST time. They are STILL talking about it! :)

  42. Adorable! I need to make many of those. I like projects that have a finish line!

Worst experience...any camping excursion with my family. I really didnt like camping as a child. And, I refused to go after the time my brother tried to wake my mother up by yelling over me in the pop-up camper (I was on the table, he was on the bed). When he opened his mouth to yell....he threw up...on my head! Yuck!

As an adult, I much prefer the beach and a book!

  45. LOVE the project! Worst travel experience: my daughter and I getting separated from the other two in our group while trying to board the chunnel in Paris going to London. Her passport was missing! The other two went ahead on the train and didn't realize we were not able to board until it had departed. My daughter and I had the two cell phones so we had no way to reach them. We had not followed the advice of having an "if-we-get-separated-plan", but they were smart and predicted what we would do and we connecterd later in London.

  46. The worst and best in the same trip - I homeschooled my kids and we went to Sea World for homeshoolers day - waited probably an hour to get to the ticket counter and our credit card was declined! Didn't know why - had paid the bill - my husband and I decided to just go do some things around Orlando - International Drive - so we went and did go kart rides and goofy golf and other things and the kids had a great time! 10 years later and they still talk about what fun it was just doing that instead of Sea World. Got home and found out card was denied because it was being used in a different area than we lived!!!!! My husband was mad at me when it happened because he thought we were late on the payments!

  47. My son's wish trip to Disney - it was amazing, the plane trip there was not - my daughter had blocked ears - she would not chew gum so chewed fruit loops the whole way and we were at the end of the plane - separated from my husband and son - bouncy, loud - she starts to vomit - I am trying to catch it and the stewardess is screaming at me to take a seat and get my seatbelt on - and guess what - no barf bag in the pouch at the back of the seat ;-) So I gladly took that seat and let my daughter heave where she may - next time, they will let me get a barf bag ;-)

  48. Best road trip ever was a 32 hour straight marathon from Denver , Co to Orlando FL. It was one of my good friends and I with our daughters. Her daughter was moving out to Orlando for the Disney College program. We left at 10pm on Christmas night (Thursday) and arrived in Orlando at 6:00am on Saturday morning. We rotated drivers and sleepers and only stopped for food, gas and restrooms. It was intense, but great. We had lots of great conversations and laughs along the way and then we spent a few days (including New Year's) at Disney World. Great times!

  49. The best vacation experience that I have ever had was the vacation that my husband and I took last Nov. We went to Hilton Head, SC with another couple aka out best friends. We spent an entire week hanging out, shopping, eating, and enjoying the beach. We spent too much money and had too much fun(if that's possible). It was an experience like no other! Definatley something that we will do again in the future.

  50. Best/worst can be on the same trip for us. Every summer we book a place to stay with another family. The kids (most of them grown) prefer the beach so we usually find something on or near the water. When you book things without seeing them in person, you never know what you will get. Most times we do pretty good. One summer in Wimberly, there was no water in the river behind the house. The kids were unhappy, but everything else was just perfect.

Everything was great while we were there but trying to come home it turned out the passports had expired and no one was allowed back. I didnt have a passport b/c I was a US citizen and back then as long as you had your birth certificate you could travel. Well it took a week that my family and I was held until they realized I was a US citizen and let us all back in. After that, my Dad made sure our passports never expired!!! xoxo

  53. Very Cute Album

Responding to FB Contest Post on Worst/Best Vacation

My Worst Vacation was when I was around 13. It was my first one with my Mom. And we went to Virginia. And some cousins came as well. When we finally got to the hotel, I pointed and said there it is the Ram Mah Duh Inn. And for the rest of the vacation, I was teased about saying it wrong. In the middle of the night all the kids decided to sneak out for a swim. Trying to be cute, i borrowed a two piece from my cousin, while I was swimming in the Deep end the top cam undone, and trying to hold it up, and treed water while panic. I almost drown, and my cousins had to save me. And well I am still hearing about that, till this day.

Best Vacation: Was Going to Disney just me and the Husband, on a misty day, and being able to get on all the rides and eat all the junk we wanted, with out worry about kids. We where the two biggest kids in the park. And we had a BLAST!

My worst travel experience - My husband and I went to stay at my Aunt's Trailer at the Lake. There was a camper there for us. It was supposed to be in mint condition. It smelled like propane in it which turned out to be a dead rat, the bathroom light didn't work, the toilet backed up because the tank was full and we couldn't get the truck to start to empty it. We had to go buy 100 feet of hose to drain the tank manually. We affectionately named it Camp Dread.

  55. Great album. My worst experience was actually while I was on my honeymoon. We went to St. Martin and stayed in my mom's timeshare. We happened to be there a few years after a hurricane had hit the island and due to the damage their plumbing had gotten destroyed so we had to put all of our toiletpaper in the garbage instead of flushing it down the toilet. My poor brand new hubby had the horrible duty (no pun intended) of putting the garbage out everynight for them to pick up. Since it was a timeshare there isn't maid service every night. Made for a really romantic honeymoon - NOT!

Worst ever was going to Hawaii and getting stranded, met some Hawaiians that were nice enough to take us in( I was 18 and 7 months pregnant ) and they were the nicest people but my husband and I could not believe the bugs I am talking HUGE spiders on the wall in the living room. I slept sitting in the middle of the bed. We saw a lizard, a flying roache and 2 huge spiders in 24 hours at their house. I was glad to get home!!!!

  57. The best travel experience I ever had was the time my husband saved enough money for us to be gone for a month. We were able to visit both of my grandparents and stay a week at the coast. It was perfect and a great way for our 4 year son to meet everyone on my side of the family. It's something that oneday I would love to be able to do again and it was the best gift in the world.

  58. Love this album. My worst travel experience was being stuck on the side of the road for 11 hours when my fuel pump went out in my car. We were in the middle of nowhere on a Sunday. Luckily, a roadside mechanic showed up after we were there for about 9 hours. Then on the way back, it went out again.

  59. my worst travel experience was when we moved from North Carolina to Kansas. My husband was pulling a trailer two hours into the trip the axle broke. We spent three days in a hotel arranging shipment on the trailer via semi truck. The children were 3 years old and 2 months old at the time. we also had two 70 pound dogs with us. Luckily the rest of the 20 something hour drive went okay.

  60. my worst travel memory is from about 8-10 years ago. My husband and I enjoy camping and decided to treck out towards Ottawa so we could also spend some time with my grandmother (Ottawa is a good 4-5 hours away from home). On day #2 we went for lunch with my grandmother. When we returned to our campsite, we noticed the tent was open and assumed one of us had forgotten to close it up. We decided to go for a swim....I then noticed our tent was a mess and when I was then looking for a swimsuit realized that all my swimsuits and underwear was gone!!! All of it and that was it!! We reported it and was informed that that morning they received another report of the same thing. This young girl (I was about 20 at the time)found out it happened to me and came to talk to me. We are very similar in build and looks. She informed me she then found her swimsuit that morning hanging in the shower stall she used every morning and it was wet and had sand in it! YUCK! needless to say we cut our trip short and after filing a police report we headed home at about 10 pm!! Definitely not a fun memory :S

  61. Our worst travel experience had to be at Disney (we actually do LOVE it there). With 3 kids and grandparents in tow, we arrive at the hotel at 11:00pm. After checking in we were told to wait for a bellman with a cart as our room was located at the back of this sprawling property. After waiting FOREVER for an available bellman, he drops us off at the room and leaves. Of course, our key to the room doesn't work. It if pitch black outside and we have no idea how to even begin to find our way back to the main building. After standing around for about a half hour we were able to find an employee who was able to radio in. About another half hour later someone showed up to open our door. So now it's like 1am everyone tired was so happy to finally walk into the room....only to find out that the people before us had never checked out and their stuff was all over the place! Back to the main builing we went and finally got into an available room by around 2:30 in the morning

  62. My worst travel experience was when I went to Guatemala on a Mission Trip. We were at the Dallas/Fort Worth Texas airport waiting for our plane to Guatemala. We were about a half an hour from boarding and leaving when they announce a tornado warning and that we needed to evacuate the terminal area and go to baggage claim until the warnings were over. I am terrified of tornados. We were in baggage claim (surrounded by windows I might add), for 2 hours while they showed the tornado hitting downtown Dallas. We were supposed to be in Guatemala at 10 p.m., we didn't get there until 1 a.m. Definitely my worst travel experience ever.

  63. This is such a great idea - I love the shaped chipboard album - the paper is also one of my favorites...I have actually had many great travel experiences as an adult, however, when I was maybe 8 years old, my family and I (which consisted of my parents, 2 older sisters and my younger bother) were traveling from outside Chicago to Orlando in our yellow Ford van. The van had some mechanical trouble, as we found out during the journey, and we got stalled in the heat in the middle of summer in the Smoky Mountains! Yikes, we made it, though, and back home again! Disney was awesome! That trip also entailed a journey to Epcot, but we couldn't go in the ball, because it had recently been built, and it was not sitting correctly - it was leaning! Yikes!

  64. LOVE THE ALBUM!!!
Best travel experience was when my in-laws took us with them to Hawaii!!! I was very afraid to fly, but once we got on the plane I was fine, I guess I was just excited to get there!!! We had so much fun my sister-in-law and I were up on stage doing the HULA. Never would of thought shy me would have done something like that! The worst part was flying from island to island on the little puddle jumper planes, kind of scary they are so small. It was the best vacation ever!!!

  65. I love the stitching and the buttons.Great layout.
Worst Vacation: 2009 on our way to WV we got a flat in our travel trailer in 90+ temp. Got the flat fixed and continued on. Made it to the wedding with a teeny little bit of time to spare. Then to NY to see kids and grandkids. Hubby got sick and spent a week in Hospital. Then on the way home, broke and axel in trailer and also got 2 flats. Got that all fixed, and next day got a flat in the last of the 4 trailer tires. So many more things happened on that one trip, that I couldn't even put them all here. Four flats and a broken axel are enough, plus a week long hospital stay! 2009 the vacation from He*%!!!!

  68. Well, my most memorable trip was a cruise, sort of. For our 20th anniversary I wanted a cruise, my husband the sailor said NO BOAT. But we selected a cruise to the Panama Canal that he always wanted to see. Sadly he developed a clot in his leg, they removed us from the cruise in Colon. The only thing in Panama we saw was a hospital!!! Not so much fun but a great story to tell when we finally got back to the US.

  69. My worst vacation experience was when I went with a bunch of youth to camp. One of the girl's was diabetic and she was constantly forgetting to take her case of insulin with her. First she left it on the bus that didn't stay with us after they dropped us off. I had to get in a car and chase it down. It took me over an hour before I finally caught up and got him to pull over.
It was like this the whole week with this dear child. . . but we made it through and her blood sugar never got out-of-control!

  70. My most exciting and wonderful trip ever, was a couple of years ago when I went to Olmpia, WA. My sister and I had just found our lost brother online and went there to meet him for the first time. We visited for a week and went to Quinalt Rainforest and the Pacific Ocean. It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience!!

  71. First, I love the album! It's so cute! Worse travel exerpience for my husband and I was a couple years ago when going to Hawaii to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We got to the Austin airpost and discovered a mass of people left over due to severve weather the night before. We made it to our flight after and little begging and pleading and maybe even a few tears. Made it into Dallas/Ft. Worth and boarded the next leg of the journey to Hawaii. We sat on the tarmac for 2 hrs. until they decided we needed to go back to the gate and figure out what was wrong with the plane. Sat another 2 waiting for them to decide that the plane could make it to LA but not all the way to Hawaii. Finally in the air and a plane was to be waiting at the next gate upon our arrival - well so we thought and had been told. Another 2 hrs and we finally took off for Hawaii. We should have gotten to Hawaii at 2 in the afternoon and finally landed at 10:30 that night after starting our day at 5AM. We were not in great shape and very frayed!!!! At least we went a day ahead of when we were to board the ship for our cruise around the islands. The rest of our time was wonderful, enjoyed the sites, took hundreds of pictures and hope one day to get brave enough to do it again!

  72. Worst travel experience ever, 2 children under the age of 4, 2 inlaws, one cranky husband 21-hour journey from Montana to Kansas. My oldest daughter got sick and threw up (and worse) for the last 9 hours of that trip. It was so cold out and the windows were icing up so we couldn't circulate fresh air through.

  73. I had 2 worst experiences in my travels. The first one was after snorkeling off St John...I thought "it's just 45 minutes back to the ship at ST Thomas" so I didn't put my cover up back on. I'm very fair and got burned very badly on the way back. I swelled up like a big toad frog, couldn't wear my clothes and had to spend the rest of the cruise in my cabin.
The other time...I won a spa certificate at the art auction and used it for a massage. I kept trying to tell the girl giving me a deep tissue massage that it was too painful for me. Obviously, that was the only way she knew how to do it and I spent the rest of that cruise in my cabin, unable to wear clothes because of the pain. Never again!!
The rest of my cruises have been great!

  74. We haven't traveled much in the last five years since I've been taking care of my dad, but hope to start again soon.

On one of the most nail biting vacations we took to Moab, my husband decided NOT to make any reservation and just wing it. There was a convention going on in town and to make a long story short, we could not find any lodging all night long through that corridor of beautiful parks. Finally, as we were driving on fumes, we found the last room in Arizona LOL. And, my husband is still winging it to this day! But, we have never run out of gas!

Thanks for bringing back memories. I've enjoyed reading other people's vacation horror stories!

  75. My worst travel experience was my honeymoon. My husband had snuck away from training with the Navy and had exactly 40 hours from the time his plane landed to get married, have a reception and drive a 26 foot U-Haul from Houston Texas back to Great Lakes, Il. Forget having our "first night" "together". No we drove and drove and drove. Oh, and the dumb truck didn't have AC! When we got lost and ended up in the wrong state, I was about to rip up our marriage license and run home. When we got turned around and got to the base, they wouldn't let me go on base so I had to sleep in the visitor's center parking, in a U-Haul, alone. The drive was miserable. Sleeping in it was worse! This September we will be married for 10 years. Still haven't gotten my honeymoon

  76. Best vacation ever was as a kid when my family rented a trailer and camped at Yosemite. Lots of fun. Worst vacation was when I camped there again when I was about 20. Went with a girlfriend, and the zipper on our tent broke in the closed position. We had to shimmy in and out of the tent in the dirt every time we needed to get in or out of the tent....

  77. Love the album! Scooter's Vacation is such a fun line! I don't really have a horrible vacation story... the only thing that comes to mind was the time we went camping when I was a kid and my bag of clothes didn't make it into the car with us... but I got to get new clothes! LOL!

  78. Best family vacation-Brand new 1972 VW van, seven of us packed and got loaded up. We made our way up the coast from LA all the way to British Columbia. My brother took his brand new surfboard only to find out there were too many rip currents past Santa Cruz.

  80. Oldest son broke his arm 3 days before we left. So we left Fri. Since I have never taken Dramamine before I took one. After an hour I had not felt better so I took the second for a total of 50mg. When we got to IN for dinner with his brother and fiancé I was let just say stoned. Oh it gets better.
Sat and Sunday driving goes off without a hitch. Time for the fun to start. In-laws meet us at their time-share and we go for dinner. Kids go down at 1030p and we go at 11p. Daughter with me in one bed and son with husband. Baby in portacrib in living room. At 1130 baby wakes up and immediately is quiet again I figured he found bink and went back to sleep but wanted to check on him anyway. HE VOMMITED ALL OVER EVERYTHING IN THE CRIB. We threw the pillow away (it had the matching pillow case to our master bed :() he was sick every 40min till about 4am. Baby and I were finally asleep by 6am. In-laws were clueless to what was going on.
Mon. husband and In Laws took older two to the pool. (6yr old in an arm cast mind you) baby and I met up with them later that afternoon.
Tues we went to magic kingdom
Wed Husband, oldest son and Fater in law went to Kennedy space center and Daughter, baby, Mother InLaw and I went to downtown Disney. We met guys for dinner and went "home".
Thur 4a, oldest Son wakes up vomiting all over Hubby :) we are up cleaning that up. InLaw's clueless. We have non-refundable park hopper tix so off to Epcot and Hollywood studios (aka MGM) we go. We get Son a stroller and pray he does not get sick again. He didn't. Yeah!!
Fri we went to downtown Disney to do last min shopping and had lunch at rainforest cafe. Baby did not want to sit or eat so I walked with him while they ate and then I at while walking. It was time to go...last day of vacation almost over. NOT!!!
Van was making a noise so we were going to go back to resort and find a Midus to take it in (under warranty since we had it tuned before we left) on the way to the car oldest Son pukes in parking lot. hubby and Son sit on curb while I take baby, Daughter and InLaws to get the van. while getting baby out of stroller his diaper runs all over my arm, white dress and shoes down to the inside of foot. EEEEW!!! So after 15 min of cleaning that up we pick up Hubby and Son and go "home". Hubby gets appt. for Midus at 8am we left by 10 YEAH so happy to go home.
Sat. baby diaper leaks in car seat just before lunch.
Sun. pouring rain and my McD's cold hazelnut coffee spills all over inside van. Poll over to vacuum out liquid with my seat outside. I rode home with a wet yush all the while driving through a tornado warning. Arrive back home by 610p and never felt happier to be home. InLaws flew Sun and landed same time we walked in the door. Found out this morning that the limo service that was to pick them up from airport to bring them home went bankrupt while we were gone and they had to find alternate way home.

serirously...i could not make this up. and they want to do it again next year. we'll see.

  81. In 1975, dad spent over 6 months fixing up an old station wagon and finished it just in time for our family of 6 to go to the Outer Banks of NC for vacation. When we arrived after a 10 hr drive, we had missed the last ferry for the day. Dad tried to find a hotel but all in the area were filled to capacity. He decided to venture further away in quest of a hotel with a vacancy. Eventually, all of us kids fell asleep and when we awoke, dad was pulling into our driveway. Dad had driven all night with no luck.
We were so disappointed but after a few hours sleep dad told us to get back in the car. Thus began a seven day journey to find every Civil War battleground and historical site within a days driving distance A.K.A. "The Red Bottom Road Trip". Daddy tried to make it fun but we were absolutely miserable!!!

  82. Worst Vacation Experience...

House boating in Florida with hubby's friends. Ah yes... driving to the river where the boat was after picking up friends at the airport, they figured there would be signs so their map STUNK! We got lost and had to call the place. Once we were on the boat the friends wouldn't park where you could get off the boat (you had to pay... I even offered) and well I wasn't swimming in alligator infested water. We also hit a bridge with the houseboat as the bridge people wouldn't raise it for us even after we asked them. Then we decided that hubby and I had to get off the boat for a day and we were going to Daytona beach the friends wanted to come with us. I told them we were going to stay for the ENTIRE day of course just after we got there they wanted to go back as we were wasting a day on the houseboat. We were back on the house boat by noon... ugg! Same week, not allowed to talk on the upper deck as someone was reading and not allowed to talk on the main deck as someone else was reading. (Umm did ya ever think ya could read together? Couldn't sit outside on the deck in the evening due to very large very hungry mosquitoes. Ahhhh yes and it was 90+ degrees, no A/C allowed as it cost money. We also weren't allowed to run the generator so the fridge/freezer defrosted and we had too cook everything the same night. Oh yes no shower every day as we may need water (did I mention it was 90+ degrees?). Then we had to drive back to the Disney area in a very small car with 5 people and their luggage. Still on the same trip friends didn't want to rent a car so we had to drive them around for a week to the theme parks they wanted to go to and pick them up when they were done. (Who goes to a theme park for 3/4 of a day and says they did the entire thing?) Then it was off to stay at the resort for a couple of days. There wasn't enough room in the car for all of us and luggage and they refused to make 2 trips. Four people in the back of a car in 100+ degree heat and I had one of them sitting on me... lets just say it wasn't fun. Did I mention that that was the last time we saw them until we were in the airport going home! (No I don't vacation with said friends anymore!) The worst part is that's just part of the story!

  84. Worst Travel Experience: My husband and I had been married 3 months and he had been working one month in northern Canada when I flew to Edmonton, Alberta to see him. He has a some teeth that were bothering him, but had no way of getting them looked at because he was in the middle of nowhere Canada. My trip was delayed by a day because of snow in Chicago, so I had to stay the night at the airport without any luggage. I was flying from central Maine. Then when I got to leave Chicago, I had a longer than usual layover in Calgary than onto Edmonton. When I finally got there, my husband looked like a "wild man" and was in a huge amount of pain. My luggage was not at the airport and could not be located. After we got checked into the hotel, my husband told me that 5 teeth were bothering him. The next morning we headed to the ER where they gave him some pain meds, but also told us to find a dentist. When we finally found a dentist, he had 5 root canals in 2 days. At this point, I spent most of my time in the dentist office listening to my husband groaning and moaning from the work being done on his teeth. And oh yea...still no luggage. My luggage finally shows up at the hotel 10 hours before I am scheduled to fly out. We did get to have dinner out that night, but my husband could only eat soup because of the work he had done on his teeth. The return trip went smoothly and our health insurance did cover all of the medical expenses. I have mentioned to my husband that we need to go back to Edmonton, so we can see some of the city.

  85. My besT travel experience was when my husband and I returned tour roots, him to his birthplace of Bremen in Germany and the port of Bremerhaven where he boarded a ship tto his new life in Australia. We then went to England to my birthplace Sheffield in Yorkshire. We also went to the post of Southhampton where i had boarded a ship to my new life in Australia also. The trip was taken to coincide with my 50th birthday and I had a very special experience I woke up on my special 50th birthday in the very same room I was born in. What an amazing experience something I will never forget. The bedroom was in my Nannan and Grandad's house where I had spent some very happy times in my childhood. On the trip we also had the amazing chance of a lifetime in a small costal village of Whitby where we experienced the arrival of the Barque Endeavour where the original Capt Cook ship of the same name had departed from on her travels to Australia years ago.My husband and I had watched this replica ship Endeavour being built over a period of time and had watched her being launched in Fremantle Western Australia for her trip to England. So can imagine how exciting it was to see her arrive in her original port in this cute little coastal village . This was an amazing trip full of even more wonderful memories, in fact it was this holiday that got me into scrapbooking to record all of the wonderful photos and experiences, to reminisce about for the rest of my life. Hope u enjoy reading this Janet

  86. Worst trip ever, was the cruise from hell. "Won" a trip to the Bahamas. As we are standing in line to board, everyone in our line is told that there is some mix up and we all have to pay first, then get reimbursed, (that should of clued us in, but no we go ahead and go). They give us all a motion sickness pill with our breakfast (2nd clue). Then we settle in for a 5 hour cruise to our destination. The waves start to hit us, and my daughter starts to get sick. While I am getting her to the restroom one of many times, someone runs in and vomits all over the back of me, which makes me start and not stop for the next hour or so. My son is sick all over the lobby, the crew is in our bathroom sick. I'm sobbing, my kids are crying. Someone tells us to get outside and my daughter and I find a place to sit (up on top of the a 4 foot cabinet). I shimmy her up, but being 5' tall and weak, from being ill, can not get up there. Two very nice people help me up there, and we fall asleep. My husband and son are down below still. The trip is cut short, as to get everyone to the island fast. We get into a limo (I have always wanted to ride in one) with 12 other puke sodden people, with no air conditioning. We get to sit on a 2x4 for a seat. We get to the hotel, and have to pay for everything, towels, food, transportation everywhere, because we are in the middle of nowhere. And yes, they have not heard of this "free" vacation yet. We have no hot water for the 3 days we are there. We have to climb back on board for the 5 hour trip back. I wanted to fly, but we had, at that time, no money to spare for it. Gratefully, the trip back was uneventful. We did get some of the money reimbursed, but not all. Oddviously, I never want to get on another "ship" again. But what stories we have to tell from it.

  87. Love the album!

Worst travel nightmare...traveling to Tennessee in October. All the hotels were books & when we finally found one we had to share a kingsize waterbed with my mother, son and his Corky doll who looked like Chucky. This happened twice during this trip. Then we rented a uhaul car top carrier to bring our stuff home as we had a small car & bought too much. One night before leaving Knoxville, we pulled into a little mall to have supper only to come out & find our car top carrier half off the car. Someone had tried to steal it while we were eating. We called the police & Uhaul who sent help & had to empty the carrier in the middle of the parking lot to lift it back on. What a nightmare of a trip. Good thing we could laugh about it later.

  88. Honeymoon, 1989. On flight to Phoenix I suffered an attack of IBS, just before takeoff. After waiting for the seatbelt light to go off, and the mad rush of people who beat me out to the bathroom, I finally got in. In my hurry to get my skirt up, pantyhose down, I forgot to lock the door...some poor gentleman got the surprise of his life when he opened the door. Talk about embarrassed!!! Had wonderful honeymoon anyway. But that is our favorite story to tell.

  89. What a great album!!! I love the buttons too cute.

The Best/Worst Travel Evperience: is to Outer Banks North Carolina

The worst one was my very first year. I spent my whole vacation visiting their emergency clinic for two brown recluse spider bites that were on my legs. They were so bad that there was talk about them being amputatied if they didn't heal up.

Thankfully they did heal and I've been back there many times after that and everytime was just wonderful so much fun that in 2007 my husband and I were married there on the beach in Buxton by the Lighthouse and it was a beautiful day that day before and the day we got married that Carolina wind kicked up and let's just say our first kiss as husband and wife was a little crunchy!!!!

Which is fine because it was funny and we're a happy couple.

    Take Care.

  90. Love the book ideas!
How about 12 hour plane delay, after getting to the airport at 3 am. Finally get to Mexico, only to be given rooms at the resort, that should of been condemned, (mold all over walls, drapes hanging from the windows, doors all chewed up and missing pieces, and to top that we had a bloody handprint on the bathroom wall) and that wasn't even the worst of the two rooms. So the next day we had to pay more for two more rooms, but we got two great rooms. Only to get sick, one at a time. Throughout the hotel you could hear people wretching from from to room. The whole resort was ill, violently. For 3 days we could do nothing, then we needed to get something to eat-not at the resort of course. And we had to pay for it, in more ways than one. ICK.

  91. Worst Travel experience? We took our new used camper to Aberdeen, SD. Getting out there went great. Coming home it was HOT! Our fridge in the camper quit working, so all of the food spoiled, a storm had come through before we left and hadn't done much damage...so we thought. As we drove home in the SD wind the wind tore the awning from the side of the camper (WHILE it was rolled), the wind was so strong our vehicle struggled to pull the camper home, there ended up being a crack opened up by the storm we didn't know about so when it rained that night...I got wet! Then somehow the camper caught enough wind it directed it into the box of the truck and blew some things out. We were never so happpy to get back home from Vacation! It was a very expensive vacatiuon!
