Little Ladies Picture Frame

Saturday, June 16, 2012

Little Ladies Picture Frame
Created by OMC Designer LindseySupplies Used:

American Crafts : Pretty Party Collection Pack
Lifestyle Crafts : Media - 6x12 Chipboard
Lace Ribbon
Ek Success : EK Tools : Butterfly Layering Punch
EKSuccess : EK Tools : 1 Inch Circle Punch
Martha Stewart : Deep Edge Punch - Doily Lace Trim

Martha Stewart : Deep Edge Punch - Scallop Dot
Tim Holtz : Distress Ink Pad - Brushed Corduroy
Distressing Tool
Tombow Glue
Glue Arts
My Mind's Eye : Buttons and Brads

Instructions:
1. Cut the Lifestyle Crafts chipboard 6" x 6". Cut a strip of craft paper 6" x 4". Score down the center of the strip (when folded in half the paper should measure 6" x 2"). Add a line of adhesive to all sides of the strip. Attach one side of the paper strip to one of the 6" x 6" chipboard pieces, and attach the other chipboard piece to the other side to create a teepee shape.

2. Cut 2 squares 6" x 6" to fit over the chipboard. Ink the edges of the paper with the Distress Ink Pad. Cut a rectangle out of the center of the front of the frame using an Xacto knife. Once the space is cut out, ink the inside edges of the rectangle. Cover the back of the frame with the second 6" x 6" square.
3. Punch out 7 - 1” circles, and fold each circle into a triangle to create a flower. Ink the edges of each triangle shape. Punch an 8th circle, cover with adhesive, and line up the triangle shapes around the circle. Once the flower is dry, pierce a hole in the middle of the flower and insert a brad.

4. Cut three circles, one large, one medium and one small. Gently crumble all the circles in your hand. Ink the edges, and use a glue dot to layer them all together. Use another glue dot to attach the button in the center of the flower.

5. Using the EK Tools butterfly punch, punch the 2nd option and the 3rd option in contrasting patterns. Ink the edges. Adhere the two butterfly shapes together, one on top of the other. Bend the butterfly wings of the top piece upward. Repeat this step with two more contrasting patterns.

6. Punch 3 strips of paper, 2 in the diamond scallop and 1 in the flower lace. Ink the edges of all the border strips. Glue down the scallop strip first, then the flower lace, then the second scallop strip in the center.

7. Cut 2 squares 6" x 6" and ink the edges. Before you glue the squares to the inside of the frame, adhere two strips of 5" lace ribbon to the bottom corners of the inside of the frame. Adhere the two squares to the inside of the frame. Do not glue the bottom of the 6" x 6" square that you adhere to the inside of the front flap. This way you can insert and take out photos.

8. Layer both flowers on the front of the frame. Adhere the butterfly shapes with foam squares.

9. Insert a picture into the frame and display!

World Environment Day Contest WINNERS!

Thursday, June 7, 2012

We have WINNERS!

The five winners of our World Environment Day Contest are:

Shaya Y!
When making cards, I try to reduce the amount of paper I use by measuring pieces that I need so I do not end up cutting off pieces after they are adhered. I also look through other cards that my family has given me and if there is a nice picture or ribbon attached to the card that I like, I take those and use them for my own projects! I recycle the pieces of cardstock that I don't use instead of throwing it away. Thanks for the opportunity to win!

Icurkapicurka!

Reduce: I like magazines with craft ideas and I prefer the downlodable versions instead of the printed issues.
Reuse: When I made cards or other papercrafts, saved every small pieces, what can I use for an other project. I collect items around my household what I use for my projects (for example: can opener pieces, plastic wraps for embellishments).
Recycle: Same than other parts of the house, collect separetly the paper, plastic or other recyclabe junks.
I like this contest, because I'm sure I can learn new ideas the other crafters' notes.:-)

NWFlamingo!

Reducing, reusing and recycling is such a common activity for me it is almost like breathing! Paper scraps just keep getting smaller and smaller as they are incorporated into new projects before finally being sent to recycling. Wrapping paper gets reused or images are cut out and used on cards and the remainder is recycled. Those plastic containers that four pounds of strawberries come in are great storage containers complete with lids. Dryer sheets are cut with dies, colored with sprays or ink pads and used as embellishments like flowers, or not cut and used as card backgrounds. I once found a roll of orange electrical tape along the road while walking and used it on cards like washi tape. I could go on all day, but I need to "reduce" and leave some words for others. LOL

Jammie Housten!

I love recycled crafts. Here are some of the stuff that I recycle. I use toilet paper rolls for tag pockets or gift card holders, cardboard boxes from food products as chipboard, tin cans for storage, rapping paper for back ground pagesand flower making, gift bags for re-gifting, I make tags out of stamp packaging. 5X9 envelopes that come in the mail into min albums, and for my big finish I take all my scraps (that can burn, yes even chipboard) that I can’t even get a 1x1 inch squire out of it. Put in a bucket, mix in news paper that we get from the mail inserts. Add water and let it set for over night. Then take handfuls of the mix and put it into a paper log maker (Look this up on line any one can do it.) To make paper logs for our winter fire place, this saves trees and we are not cold.

Barbara Pitts!

I plan my Silhoutte cuts (and use my Gypsy to plan Cricut cuts) to minimize paper wastage. I use unexpected materials in my crafting, like my son's jeans that just became a size too small and are too ripped to pass along. And, most importantly, while crafting, I drink several cups of coffee from the same mug (in succession, of course!).

Winners, please send your shipping information to contest@ohmycrafts.com within 30 days to claim your prize.

Happy crafting!

It's That Easy - Lady Liberty Card/Invite

It’s That Easy - Lady Liberty Card/Invite
Created by OMC Designer Sandy

Creating Dimension with stamps and embossing is as simple as counting 1-2-3! Make it a card or an invite – it’s up to you!

Supplies Used:

Ranger Ink : Archival Ink Pads - Cobalt

Copic Markers : Blending Card X-Press It
Tim Holtz : Americana Silhouettes Stamp Set
Sizzix : Embossing Diffuser 3PK Set #1
American Crafts : Specialty Paper - Foil
Bazzill Basics : 12x12 Cardstock - Red
Jenni Bowlin - Dye Ink Pads - Chili Powder
Trimmer
Adhesives
Star Embossing Folder

Instructions:

1. Trim

Red card base 11¼" x 4½", score in half. Blue matte 5½" x 4¼", white base 5½" x 4¼" this will trim down more after its embossed.
2. Stamp & Emboss

Stamp lady liberty in center of white cardstock (embossing powder would look great on this too).

Place in embossing folder and place diffuser on top of embossing folder.

Place the folder on top of white cutting mat and one clear shim.

Run through Big Shot. Remove from folder and lightly ink embossed design with contrasting ink.

Trim edges to 5¼ x 4 inches. Glue embossed design to blue cardstock and then to card base.

3. Finish
Trim a white cardstock piece for inside of card 5" x 4". Ink edges and stamp sentiment or place invitation info on cardstock. Adhere to base.

This card looks difficult but is really quick to put together. You can also put the cut out portion of the diffuser under the embossing folder to raise just that portion.
