A few ways we Reduce, Reuse & Recycle Here at OMC!
I recycle my cans. The ASPCA has drop cites around the city to raise money for the animals. I also use some special cans in my artwork. When I ride my bike on the river, I keep plastic bags in my basket, and what isn't useable in my artwork, is put into the trash bin when I get home so I know it wont blow around.
ReplyDeleteI try and use everything. The scraps/die cuts that are too little and don't get reused go into my daughter's craft pile so she can use them when she wants to make something. She loves to have some of my special papers, and I try and reuse packaging whenever possible.
ReplyDeleteI love to challenge myself with my crafting packageing !! From reuseing the cardboard to make mini books, acetate to make flowers or shaker cards !! When I make a project I try and make tags or cards with the small pieces of paper or card left !! It`s great fun seeing what you can come up with !!

I use a lot of found items on my pages. These include pop can tabs, cat food can lids, cardboard, and soda cans, just to name a few.
ReplyDeleteI use junk mail to make hand made papers. I also save all my paper scraps to use as embelishments. Of course I do the usual recycling with my household items.
ReplyDeleteI cut up my cracker and cereal boxes to use as chipboard, and all the product packaging like spellbinders gets cut up to use as acetate for windows on cards, etc. I also cut open my aluminum drink cans and flatten them out for metal tooling and embossing! I like to save used dryer sheets to cut up, they make great clouds. I save door prize ticket stubs to embellish cards. I am always looking (scavenging) for hidden treasure!
ReplyDeleteWaste not, want not. I keep my scraps organized and accessible to use for other projects or to let my girls craft with. I also keep a drawer with vinyl or paper cuts from my Slice so I can dip into them at any time or trade them with friends so nothing goes to waste.
ReplyDeleteI seperate mh scraps by size into diffrent bins so they are easy ro pick through. And the plastic package I save to put odds and ends into or to use to make shaker boxes. The cardboard I keep to make cutouts on cricut or use it to protect for stsmping and such. I have even saved glass salad dressing jars cleaned them and used them for storage for brads and buttons and all kinds of supplies.
ReplyDeleteWhen making cards, I try to reduce the amount of paper I use by measuring pieces that I need so I do not end up cutting off pieces after they are adhered. I also look through other cards that my family has given me and if there is a nice picture or ribbon attached to the card that I like, I take those and use them for my own projects! I recycle the pieces of cardstock that I don't use instead of throwing it away. Thanks for the opportunity to win!
ReplyDeleteWhat I do to reuse or recycle in my craft world. I don't throw away cereal boxes. I use them to make chipboard embellishment on my crafting projects. I also recycle plastic coffee containers that I use store my embellishments in my craftroom.
ReplyDeleteFirst thing I try and do is not to throw any paper away that is more then 2X2 I can always find a use for it. The second thing is I do use blue bags for my waste. Here in Canada that is our recyle garbage, so all my scrap booing garbage is being recyled. But really when it comes to my scrapbooking I am a real hoader and hate to throw anything away.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI try to use every scrap piece of paper and/or cardstock when making cards or scrapbooking. You never know when that little square of a certain color or pattern may come in handy in another project. I also reuse envelopes by putting a label over the name or address if it hasn't been sealed.
I reuse shipping boxes for my craft purposes (mini album) etc. Also I keep jam jars for crafting purpose.
ReplyDeleteHi, I glue the trimmings from new unmounted rubber stamps to make new, custom stamps, by adhering the pieces to a hand-size piece of wood or toy block, in a random cobblestone pattern or into a frame shape. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo World Environment Day! I reduce my supplies by using them to create cards and gifts to bless others:) My family knows that when the cereal box is out of cereal then it's time to go to the cereal box/packaging craft drawer. (Oatmeal / Somersweet cylinders make super cute gift boxes) The clear plastic packaging is also kept in the same drawer to use to make 'snow globe' cards, butterflies and etc. Ribbons from gift wrapping is also reused on cards and gifts. Once a precious girl lived with us---in the past she was employed by Victoria's Secret---she had an old Christmas 'tree' cone---about 3 1/2 foot tall that was made from all types of red, pink, white and cream colored ribbon. She gave it to me and I was enabled to cut each piece off and save. The VS ribbon has been a huge blessing for various projects for precious people. Thank you so very much for the op t win and thank you for your generosity:) be blessed

Reduce: I like magazines with craft ideas and I prefer the downlodable versions instead of the printed issues.
ReplyDeleteReuse: When I made cards or other papercrafts, saved every small pieces, what can I use for an other project. I collect items around my household what I use for my projects (for example: can opener pieces, plastic wraps for embellishments).
Recycle: Same than other parts of the house, collect separetly the paper, plastic or other recyclabe junks.
I like this contest, because I'm sure I can learn new ideas the other crafters' notes.:-)
I cut down plastic milk jugs to use for backing for beadwork and embroidery. Cereal boxes get used in armatures for all sorts of paper crafts in my home. Trim buttons from clothes that get torn or stained too badly to wear and use clear plastic packaging for windows in cards and doll houses. Truth is, crafts and recycling/re-using are so entwined in my household that everyone gives a hard look at things before throwing them away to see how it might be used.
ReplyDeletePhoto paper isn't recyclable so I like to use scraps of trimmed photos or "mutt" photos as embellishments. I cut them into shapes for border accents or cut letters out of them for a different look on a scrapbook page.
ReplyDeleteI conserve by recycling cards I receive at home and at work. They add a touch of gloss to my home made cards.
ReplyDeleteI love to reuse things. This last Christmas, I saved a candy box, and then at Easter, I decorated it and added some mini chocolate eggs. It was adorable. I even kept it to reuse each year again at Easter.
ReplyDeleteI think plastic bags should be banned from all the stores .. or if anyone wants a carry bag it should be charged .. this way ppl will buy less of them and hence envirnoment saved
ReplyDelete:)
I'm always looking for new ways to keep my craft supplies organized, without spending much. I use old prescription bottles to hold various embellishments, cotton swabs, buttons, and small containers of glitter. The taller bottles are perfect for holding a few Smooch inks, markers, or pens.
ReplyDeleteI use recycled cereal boxes for chipboard, I collect broken jewelry pieces for establishments, pretty much anything around the house, pieces of ribbon from packages, twine, clear plastic, if it looks scrap-able I use it in my crafting.
ReplyDeleteIf it looks like it can be used, I'll pick it up & bring it home. Walks are a really good source. Before throwing something out, consider it's potential. Recently I brought home some bottles that had been thrown out in the desert, painted them black, photographed them & turned them into svg's. I kept them because they looked so good I thought I would make & put paper flowers in them & display them on a windowsill or shelf.
ReplyDeleteI love reusing oddities that weren't intended for crafting on my cards...straws, cardboard packaging, weathered wood thick slivers from the fence in the back yard. Anything that I see in a different light, I try to put to good use.
ReplyDeleteI save all the odds and ends cut from projects to make cards!
ReplyDeleteReducing, reusing and recycling is such a common activity for me it is almost like breathing! Paper scraps just keep getting smaller and smaller as they are incorporated into new projects before finally being sent to recycling. Wrapping paper gets reused or images are cut out and used on cards and the remainder is recycled. Those plastic containers that four pounds of strawberries come in are great storage containers complete with lids. Dryer sheets are cut with dies, colored with sprays or ink pads and used as embellishments like flowers, or not cut and used as card backgrounds. I once found a roll of orange electrical tape along the road while walking and used it on cards like washi tape. I could go on all day, but I need to "reduce" and leave some words for others. LOL
ReplyDeleteI love to recycle items in my crafts, from pieces of papers to
ReplyDeleteplastic packings. I can't seem
to throw anything out that can be
use by me or someone else.
I save all my scraps for other projects and store them in recycled food containers. I also reuse shipping boxes and embellishment containers for shipping and storage.

I recycle as much as I can. Paper scraps are used by me, the kids for their crafts and I share all the extras with the local schools for their journals and art projects. All the chipboard from my craft purchases is used for dies and frames, mats, alphas, etc. SO much fun to upcycle products you have used before.
ReplyDeleteOnce I've used as much of a piece of paper that I can, I cut the remaining pieces into even smaller pieces to use for mosaics. I also save packaging pieces (like the backs of sticker sheets) to put my paint on. I've also even cut off the curling ribbon from the end of balloons once they aren't floating any more and using that!
ReplyDeleteI have so much leftover scraps now that can keep me busy for years to come LOL I also have a thing about plastic water bottles, I refill them to take to our camper. I cringe when someone throws one away on me . LOL
ReplyDeleteI love recycled crafts. Here are some of the stuff that I recycle. I use toilet paper rolls for tag pockets or gift card holders, cardboard boxes from food products as chipboard, tin cans for storage, rapping paper for back ground pagesand flower making, gift bags for re-gifting, I make tags out of stamp packaging. 5X9 envelopes that come in the mail into min albums, and for my big finish I take all my scraps (that can burn, yes even chipboard) that I can’t even get a 1x1 inch squire out of it. Put in a bucket, mix in news paper that we get from the mail inserts. Add water and let it set for over night. Then take handfuls of the mix and put it into a paper log maker (Look this up on line any one can do it.) To make paper logs for our winter fire place, this saves trees and we are not cold.
ReplyDeleteI repurpose cereal boxes, tags from clothing, gift card sleeves, packaging materials (love using clear packaging to emboss in my Cuttlebug!). I reuse glass jars and bottles, boxes and tins for storage.
ReplyDeleteI reuse old jewelry, clothes, packaging, anything that I can recycle into my crafts. Giving a 2nd life to items is so eco friendly and budget friendly!
ReplyDeleteNever never never throw out a scrap of paper until I am sure I can't use it for anything else. even a small scrap can be used as a patchwork type design - or use to try out an ink color before stamping, or to test a punch, or see how a mist spray will work - you get the idea. And then recylce when they are as used up as can be!!
ReplyDeleteI use parts of cards for use with a new card. I like to put items to use on new projects from things that I don't want anymore to freshen them up.

There is so much packaging that can be recycled if you think about it. Every time we receive something wrapped with tissue paper, particularly beautifully printed tissue paper, I save it for mixed media projects. I have a big basket of scraps for craft projects and any die cut or trimming papers go in there. Packaging form craft supplies gets reused (both paper and acetate bits) and toys packaging is fantastic - I fussy cut the shapes off Lego boxes, for example, to document my son's hobbies. A lot of garments come with extra thread, beads, buttons - all go into crafts since I rarely lose buttons:-) Cards we receive get saved and either crapbooked if I want to save them when making a LO of the occasion or bits of them are fussy cut and used on projects... When making curtains my supplier was selling a bag of fabric scraps very cheap and they are perfect to make embellies on my pages - I will have some for years in all sorts of patterns. No I am on the hunt at antique fairs for vintage cards and postcards - they are lovely and can be had cheaply.
ReplyDeleteI plan my Silhoutte cuts (and use my Gypsy to plan Cricut cuts) to minimize paper wastage. I use unexpected materials in my crafting, like my son's jeans that just became a size too small and are too ripped to pass along. And, most importantly, while crafting, I drink several cups of coffee from the same mug (in succession, of course!).
ReplyDeleteI reuse not only my paper scraps, but my cropping buddies too! I also reuse baby food jars for craft storage. Perfume gift set boxes also come in handy for storage for lesser used group items.
ReplyDeleteI use my papers down to the smallest possible and if I have some things that I am not going to use I donate them to the local schools.
ReplyDeleteI recycle plastic packaging by using it in my Scrapbooking and card making. I really love to use it with alcohol ink. You can see an example by going to my blog and looking in the gallery at the two Mother's Day Cards. One is used as a clear accent and the other is used with alcohol inks.
