OMC is Subbing for Santa!

Monday, December 6, 2010

We have been given a wonderful opportunity to provide Christmas for two local families who are in need of temporary assistance through United Way’s Sub for Santa program.  As their sponsor, we are encouraged to provide these families with some basic needed items for the holidays that some of us might take for granted. In the front lobby of our building is the OMC Christmas Giving Tree where we will be hanging paper ornaments with the name and needs of each of child. We as a company and our employees are all working together to help these families enjoy the true spirit of Christmas.

If you wish to help us support these families, you can donate by clicking the following link: DONATIONS

The proceeds of your donations will go towards our Sub for Santa families. Follow our Giving Tree to see how you and OMC helped make a difference this holiday season!

What is Sub for Santa?

Sub for Santa is a temporary Christmas assistance program, which matches sponsors with families looking for help. Applicants will be provided with learning opportunities to help them better manage their money, time, and talents. As a result, children are given what every child deserves: a delightful Christmas Season.

Sub for Santa provides gifts for children between 18 months and 14 years of age in Utah County. This temporary assistance program fosters self-sufficiency as applicants discuss different ways to manage their time, money and talents. Last year, Sub for Santa provided nearly 2,000 families and more than 5,400 children with much-needed assistance while helping to maintain their self-sufficiency.

Steph Brubaker!

My name is Steph Brubaker, I live in The Beautiful Chilliwack River Valley of Southern B.C. Canada! I have 2 awesome kids with my best friend who makes me laugh everyday! I am very happy to say that I am able to stay home with my kids as they grow, with the added support of my husband who runs a Web Design and Development company from home. We turned our front deck into his office because my craft studio started to encroach on his work space :-). Now I have the most amazing workspace with 2 long desks to work on!

I teach Paper Craft workshops for kids at the local Arts Center, and am excited for this season as we have a brand new building to work in! Since I have found OMC my style has changed incredibly I now have a Cricut and a BigShot and my kids and I have hours of creative fun together! They like to learn all the new techniques and are always just excited as me when the mail comes with an OMC box!!

Here's a little more about Steph:

1. What do you craft? Cardmaker, scrapbooker, etc.

I mostly craft cards and gifts. I have just started to venture into scrapbooking.

2. Favorite technique or tool you use?

I love to Distress and my favorite tool is hands down my irock!!

3. How long have you been crafting?

When I was 8 years old and home sick from school I started cutting up my Archie Comics and designing dresses for Betty
and Veronica. I would say it started then and after my kids were born it went into hyper speed.

4. How long have you been an OMC customer?

I have been an OMC fan/customer going on 3 years now.

5. What are your favorite products you can find at OMC?

Of course Cricut Cartridges, and all of the irock stuff!! I have just started venturing into the Copics so I am sure that
OMC will be seeing a lot of me!

6. What is your favorite thing about OMC?

Hands down, customer service! The products and prices are great but they are complimented by the great "family" feel of their business! For an on-line store, I receive better customer service than I receive at my local grocery store!

7. Favorite quote or phrase?

It’s worth remembering that every cell in your body is eavesdropping on the brain ~ Deepak Chopra

Thanks for being a fan Steph! We love what you've created!

Weekend Craft: Dazzling Candle Wraps!

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Dazzling candle wraps add elegance to your Christmas decorating with very little work. They can be customized to your homes décor.

Beautiful to give or keep, these wraps will help add some sparkle to the holidays!

SUPPLY LIST:

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Measure the diameter of candle with cloth measuring tape. The width of the wrap should be a little less than a third of the size of the candle. For example, the candle pictured is 9” tall and the wrap is 2 ¾” wide by 20” in length. Remember to add an extra inch for the overlap to the length.

2. Place red vinyl in embossing folder lengthwise and sandwich between the mats and insert into machine and emboss. After embossing the first time, and if the strip is longer than the embossing folder, turn the embossing folder crosswise so that the longest part of the folder just fits through the opening and insert the vinyl into the embossing folder and continue embossing where the previous embossing ended. Repeat process until the whole strip is embossed.

3. Next, turn over the embossed strip of vinyl and peel back about ½” of the backing and trim off just the backing – this will be how the wrap is attached to the candle. Do not remove any other part of the backing! Repeat the same process on the other end.

4. Attached to the candle in the center by pressing the uncovered section to candle and then fasten edges together, keeping the wrap aligned.

5. Using a Cricut die cut machine, cut approximately 8 – 2” snowflakes from the silver sparkle vinyl. Depending on how the flakes are spaced, more may be needed. Use a blade depth of 3 or 4 depending upon your machine, a medium speed, and a low pressure. After cutting flakes, lightly cut a box around the snowflakes with knife and weed away the remaining excess vinyl. Pick out all centers and holes.

6. Once all the holes and excess vinyl are removed, cut a square of transfer tape to use to remove each snowflake from the paper backing and burnish well to transfer flake to transfer tape. This kind of metal vinyl is a little tricky to attach to the transfer tape. A dental pick may be needed to help lift the flake from the backing. Place half of snowflake on candle and half on red vinyl in any pattern desired. Burnish tape on wrap and candle then remove tape, repeat with each flake.

Happy wrapping!
