It's Pumpkin Time!

Remember the Paper Pumpkin from our email ad last week?  Well, we had so many requests for the directions on how to make it that we decided to blog about it!  Enjoy!

Paper Strip Pumpkin
Created by: Lindsey Miller

Product List:

Cuts:
  • 25 strips of paper (1" x 12")
        - 5 strips of each style of paper
  • 1 Circle 3 ¾"
  • 1 Circle 1 ¾"
  • 10 leaves from Sizzix die
  • 1 Cardstock strip: 2 ½" x 10"
  • 3 Strips ¼" x 12" black/cream vine floral print

Directions:
1.    Separate the 1" x 12" paper strips into 5 piles (one pile for each paper design).
2.    Starting with the first pattern, line up the strips along the edge of the 3 ¾" circle. The strips will overlap each other.  Rotate through the piles to make the pattern of the pumpkin.
2.     Staple the strips around the edge of the circle. When completed, it should look like a sun with beams.
3.     Staple the other side of the strips together, three strips at a time.  Staple them so that they have some give and curve in a “C” shape. Repeat around the entire pumpkin, then staple all stapled sections together. When finished, you should have the basic shape of a pumpkin.
4.    Using all the Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist, mist the 1 ¾" circle and glue it to the top of the pumpkin.  You want to cover the staples where the strips are joined.
5.    Mist the 2 ½" x 10" cardstock strip in the following order: Pumpkin pie, Copper, Tattered Leather and Black Magic. When the strip is dry, twist it into a coil. Glue the paper to hold its coil shape, and staple it at the bottom. This will be the stem.
6.    Glue the stem down in the center of the top of pumpkin, covering the staples.
7.    Using all the Glimmer Mist colors, mist all 10 leaves.
8.    Wrap the ¼" strips around a pen to make them coil.  Next, glue a leaf to one end of each coil.  Glue the other end of the strip to the base of stem.
9.    Glue remaining leaves to the ¼" strips, and around the base of the stem to hide the glue circle.

It's a Boy!!

Monday, October 11, 2010

If you know somebody that is having (or has had, or sometime in the future will have) a baby boy, you'll want to take a look at this layout and baby announcement that Lindsey created.    She used the New Arrival Boy paper kit by American Crafts; click here to view the paper kit from our website.

These are so stinkin' cute, and don't worry- if you're having a girl (or know someone that is) no problem.  Use the American Crafts New Arrival Girl paper kit; click here to link to our website.   It is absolutely fabulous!

Lindsey used clusters of buttons and stars to give the layout a little 'pop.'  Doing this helps make the picture the focal point of the project.

Say "Hello" to the most beautiful baby announcement ever.  Because this paper kit comes with patterns and colors that look great together, it's easy to layer.  This is the front...

And this is the back....

Thanks again, Lindsey, for giving us great project ideas.  If you have any questions for Lindsey, you can email her at lindsfill@gmail.com. Please put the name of the project as your subject title.

Creativity Forever

7Gyspies has some seriously fun products.  Check out this 7Gypsies Vintage Receipt Holder that our designer, Julie, decorated.  The options with this receipt holder are endless, so have fun with it!  If you decide you want to change things around, it's way easy, and you can add more to it at any time.  So show off your accomplishments, favorite quotes, places you've been, funny pictures, and anything else you deem necessary.

A variety of embellishments were used, so here is a list of some of the products.  Click on the words to be linked to the item on our website.

Layering embellishments is pretty great.  You can fold your paper like a fan (remember doing that all the time as a kid!?) and then place a little flower on top of it.  This quote was printed from the computer and then the words were cut apart and adhered to the paper.

Don't you think all the detail used adds to the overall effect of the project?  Don't hesitate to use more than one item with another.  In this picture you can see how she connected the Pearl Ring Dangles to the Aviation Hardware.   Love it!

This card is fun because the quote was printed out, but then cut up like a puzzle; the edge of each piece was inked.  And that butterfly sure does add a nice touch.

To give your paper a more vintage look, run the entire stamp pad over the top of your paper and on the edges.  It's not possible to mess it up, so don't worry.

We hope you've enjoyed this new creation!  If you have any questions about this project, please email Julie at julie@ohmycrafts.com.

Happy Crafting!
